Present:
- David Boarder (Musical Director)
- Val Hirst (Chairman)
- Caroline Franks (Treasurer)
- Heather Howard (Secretary)
- Members of Royston Choral Society
1. Welcome and Apologies – apologies were received from Sue Pegram and Val Price
2. Previous minutes - minutes of last year’s AGM were circulated and there were no matters arising
3. Chair’s report
As Val is stepping down from the committee and chair there was no chair’s report but she thanked the committee for all their support.
She made the comment that we are potentially a good choir but could do more homework and that DB always chooses good music
4. Treasurer’s report
Copies of the financial accounts for the year were circulated which contain a lot more information. To summarise CF reported that we are now up to date with the Charities Act requirements.
Our number of members was 61 in the Autumn, 54 in the Spring and 49 in the Summer.
We made a loss on the November concert as expected
100 club is down – we have lost a few members
Bank interest has dropped and will be even lower next year
Expenses are as usual
Ended year in surplus
Looking at the balance sheet – gift aid had not yet been received – its claimed at the end of the year
Of the £141 expenses incurred but not yet paid £130 is the performing rights fees which is due in the autumn next year (still outstanding)
We are in a fairly strong position for Verdi – a grant application has gone in and we are keeping our fingers crossed.
5. Approval of 2008 – 2009 accounts
Proposed: Caroline Franks
Seconded: Peter Murray
CF also thanked Alan Howard (our independent advisor (Harris)
6. Musical Director’s report
DB apologised for getting cross early this evening
Mozart concert - DB commented that we got through it in some style last year
At Christmas we had the carols with Santa’s hat
It was the Melbourne concert where I (DB)forgot my trousers!!
The organ was not good so we had to use the piano (note to self to check organ)
Guilden Morden concert – it was very last minute but it all worked out – well done and thank you
DB thanked the choir and said that he thought we work very hard and put up with his stories and tantrums!!
DB felt it was important to mention that every organisation has to have a back room that steers everything and that the general nature of an organisation is to leave this to the people who can do it. He went on to say that some how a couple of people take on all the jobs and that we owe our thanks to these people who do all these jobs. DB went on to thank these people and especially Val.
Caroline Franks then spoke about VH
VH joined the committee as booking secretary in December 2001 when the committee had no chair until end of year when Val took on more and more and agreed to take on the chair
She is a do-er and just gets on and does things
She took on the tea rota and regular mailings
CF said we take advantage of her and still do and thanked her for all her hard work and support
